2014 ESSTS Annual Meeting and COST International Conference for Tourette Syndrome

The 2014 Annual meeting of the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome and COST International Conference for Tourette Syndrome will take place on April 25-26, 2014, at the historic Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, home to Jean-Martin Charcot and one of his most famous students, Georges Gilles de la Tourette. The conference venue will be the newly built Brain and Spine Institute (Institut du Cerveau et de la Moëlle Epinière – ICM) which also houses the Charcot Library.

The meeting will focus on advances in neuroimaging, genetics, neurobiology and therapy (deep brain stimulation) of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. Also, a historical session has been specially scheduled to honour the memory of George Gilles de la Tourette and the Charcot school. Invited speakers are expected both from European countries and the US to make this the largest ESSTS meeting ever, bridging psychiatry and neurology, basic and clinical research. - A three-day Clinical Training School for Tourette Syndrome, focused on Behavioural Therapies for Tic Disorders (April 23-25)

- The 1st European Workshop on Neuroimaging for Tourette Syndrome (April 23-24)

- A TS-EUROTRAIN introductory training workshop on the Phenotype and Neurobiology of Tourette Syndrome (April 24)

- The 3rd COST International meeting of Tourette Syndrome Support and Advocacy Groups (April 26).

Workshop on Developmental repetitive behaviours:  Tics, compulsions, stereotypies

Please join us at this Workshop on Developmental Repetitive Behaviours (A COST Action BM0905 event)!

The workshop, is integrated in a meeting on “Movement Disorders in Childhood”, and will deal with developmental repetitive behaviours – tics, compulsions, stereotypies – a series of phenomena whose interrelationship represents a penumbra field in child neuropsychiatry and in Tourette Syndrome.

The workshop is structured around several aspects of these conditions - clinical symptoms, pathophysiology, animal models and treatment options; several high profile speakers from around the world will be participating in the workshop.

athens-2The 2013 Annual Meeting of the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome and COST Action International Conference for Tourette Syndrome will be held in Athens, Greece, April 26-27, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Royal Olympic Hotel at the heart of the historical and cultural center of Athens.

The 2013 Annual ESSTS meeting and COST Action International Conference for Tourette Syndrome, will feature presentations by experts about the most recent developments in the field of Tourette Syndrome, as well as discussions with representatives from Tourette Syndrome Support and Advocacy Groups. The meeting is going to be preceded by a three-day COST Action Clinical Training School for Tourette Syndrome open to clinicians and investigators from around Europe (April 24-26, 2013). Travel awards will become available by COST Action BM0905. This year, the first COST Action European Workshop on Deep Brain Stimulation for Tourette Syndrome is also going to be offered on April 24-25 (click here for details). The 2nd European Meeting for Tourette Syndrome Support and Advocacy Groups will be held on April 27!

Positions for PhD Fellows are now available! 

We seek energetic post-graduate researchers to undertake positions as Early Stage Researcher (PhD student) as part of TS-EUROTRAIN, a Marie Curie Initial Training Network. TS-EUROTRAIN is a multidisciplinary and intersectorial network focused on the study of Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome (TS)  and related neurodevelopmental disorders.  TS is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder that is marked by multiple motor and vocal tics and high comorbidity rates with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. TS-EUROTRAIN encompasses 12 complementary PhD projects aiming to disentangle the relative contribution of environment and genetics in TS etiology, elucidate the neurobiological underpinnings of TS and related disorders, investigate the mechanism of effect of existing drugs for TS, while at the same time seeking to identify novel druggable targets. Ten partners from academia and industry as well as eight associated partners will provide a multi-national and interdisciplinary training infrastructure, designed to equip participating students with the necessary knowledge and sets of tools to pursue successful careers.
